School Games

Through the national legacy programme of the School Games we are motivating, enthusing and inspiring children and young people from across Herefordshire & Worcestershire, to take part in more competitive school sport in the hope of making a meaningful difference to their lives, whilst increasing levels of participation. The mission of the School Games is to keep competitive sport at the heart of schools and provide more young people with the opportunity to compete and achieve their personal best. The vision is to be make a clear and meaningful difference to the lives of children and young people.

School Games events consist of four types of competition; three of which are localised events and then there is the School Games National Finals.

Intra-school Competition - Sports competition for all students within school. Whilst the emphasis is on competition, we encourage schools to include participation opportunities so that all young people have the option to take part in school sport.

Inter-school Competition - Local cluster inter-school competitions. Level 2 is organised and delivered by each School Games Organiser within their districts. Individuals and teams compete against other schools at a district level in order to qualify for level 3.

County Games Competition - Organised by the Sports Partnership Herefordshire & Worcestershire, young people aged primary, secondary, independent and special schools - both able bodied and disabled - have the opportunity to compete in large scale multi-sport events and also take part in new participation events.
