10 FREE or cheap activities to keep the kids busy during the summer holidays

With six whole weeks to fill, we know that finding new, exciting and cheap adventures to entertain the kids can be tough. That's why we have put together 10 ideas to keep the kids active this August.

1. parkrun

Weekly Free 5km Timed Run. We all run for our own enjoyment. Please come along and join in whatever your pace!

2. Free Holiday Multi-sports - Active Communities Worcester

freedom leisure's active communities team will be providing completely free multi-sports across worcester in the summer holidays!

3. Family Play Here - Wyre Forest

Slap on the suncream, pack up a picnic and bring the family down to your local park where the WFDC Summer Activity Leaders will be on hand to entertain you all with sports, games, activities, arts and crafts.

4. Malvern Hills Letterboxing (£3 for clue sheet, notebook map and badge)

A family fun form of orienteering designed to encourage children and families to enjoy being outdoors together.

5. FREE Learn to Swim Crash Course* - Ledbury Swimming Pool

*for children 3-8 years, who have not attended a free swimming crash course before and are not currently on the learn to swim programme)

6. Red Riding Hood Trail - Berrington Hall (See website for prices)

Step foot into the gardens and head on a quest to find the big bad wolf. Grab your red cloak and step back in time to follow the footsteps of the big bad wolf. See if you can take up the challenge and defeat this scary beast as he hides in the gardens.

7. Swallows & Amazons Trail - Croft Castle (See website for prices)

Join us for a summertime adventure around Croft as we recreate the much-loved story of 'Swallows and Amazons' by Arthur Ransome.

8. SwimSafe - University of Worcester Lakeside Campus

Children love swimming outdoors, but swimming in the sea, rivers and lakes is very different to swimming in a pool. Swim Safe offers a unique opportunity for children aged between 7 and 14 to learn how to keep themselves safe when swimming outdoors, and what to do if they get in to trouble.

9. Haugh Woods Butterfly Trails

Haugh Woods Butterfly Trails are 2 trails through the ancient Haugh Woods, that have been set up by the Forestry England and Butterfly Conservation to allow everyone to enjoy the numerous butterflies that live there.

10. Droitwich Spa Lido

The lido is a great fun and great value day out for the entire family.
