Posted: Wed, 27 Jun 2018 08:15
The annual Active Age Festival is back for its 7th year, welcoming Worcestershire's older adults to a day filled with activities in a great new location!
The Active Age Festival is a free event for older adults organised by Age UK Herefordshire & Worcestershire, Freedom: Perdiswell Leisure Centre, Sports Partnership Herefordshire and Worcestershire, and Worcester U3A. This year the festival is taking place in a brand-new venue:
Perdiswell Leisure Centre, Saturday 7th July from 11:30 – 3:30.
The festival promises a day of taster sessions across a range of activities, including golf, Zumba, body balance, and walking football. There are also host of information stands showcasing activity groups across the county, from holistic health to Nordic walking!
The taster sessions cater to all levels, whether you're a complete beginner or just interested in trying another activity. All levels of mobility are welcome to join.
Thanks to the great new venue, attendees will also have the chance to get to know one of their local facilities and all the exercise classes that are held there regularly. Refreshments will be available to buy from the Freedom Café.
Why Active Age?
In Worcestershire only 15% of people over 55 take part in 30 minutes of sport or active recreation 3 times a week.
The NHS advise that people over 65 should be active for 150 minutes per week as being active reduces the risk of heart disease, stroke, type 2 diabetes, some cancers, depression and dementia. Getting out and about on a regular basis reduces feelings of loneliness and stimulates the mind.
Our 7th Active Age Festival is welcoming older people to join us in getting active, meeting new people and leading a healthy and fulfilling lifestyle. There is no need to book, turn up on the day and take part. FREE entry and parking. Groups are welcome.
