Macmillan Move More is a success!

The Sports Partnership is working with Macmillan Cancer Support to support anyone living with and beyond cancer to 'Move More' - becoming and staying active at a level that's right for them. When you're living with and beyond cancer, physical activity can help you make a positive change to your life. Being active during and after treatment can help to manage the side effects of treatment, such as fatigue, depression and muscle wasting and it can help to keep the heart, bones and lungs strong. Many people say it helps them to feel like themselves again.

Since launching the project in December, we've received over 30 referrals, with a number of individuals across Worcestershire recognising the importance of physical activity. Participants have taken up a range of activities, from a specialist Macmillan exercise DVD to walking and Maintaining Movement exercise classes.

Mr H, a recent participant had this to say, "Having recently learnt of the Move More initiative from my GP, last week I had a session with Di Fox at Worcester University."

"I'm a retired greyhead living in Worcester. Last year I was diagnosed with prostate cancer, this resulted in my undergoing a radical prostatectomy procedure. The procedure was successful and I am now being monitored with 3 monthly PSA blood tests."

"The outcome of my session with Di surprised me somewhat. As I'd hoped, my current exercise regime is okay For the first time I was able to talk about my cancer experience with someone who also had recovered from cancer. This in itself was a tremendous result."

"I am a firm believer in the benefits of exercise and fresh air. Trying to be both physically & mentally fit helped me to a achieve positive outlook prior to my procedure and undoubtedly assisted my recovery."

"Di's sheer enthusiasm and vitality made me want to contribute to help others. So, may I please have some information on becoming a Buddy or any other means of helping with the Move More initiative."
